John Wright

Born in the UK in 1941, British Nationality, educated at Daniel Stewarts College Edinburgh, and an Associate and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Ireland. A Past President of the latter and

John Wright is a career Commercial Banker with a strong International background. His career spanned 43 years and included assignments in the UK, India, Sri Lanka, West Africa, Canada, Hong Kong and the United States before becoming Chief Executive of Oman International Bank for 7½ years thereafter Chief Executive of the Northern and National Irish Banks in Ireland for 5 years, a brief spell as Chief Executive of the Gulf Bank in Kuwait followed finally by 3 years as Chief Executive of Clydesdale & Yorkshire Banks prior to retirement.

Now a Non Executive Director with a number of Roles across Banking, Retailing, Manufacturing, Information
Technology and Trusts.

He served as Chairman of Edinburgh Fund Managers in 2001/2002, as a Board Member of E.C.G.D (the UK Government Export Credit Agency) for six years till 2007 and continues as a Member of the Advisory Boards of the Arab Financial Forum, the Glasgow University School of Business and as a Board and Executive Committee Member of the Arab British Chamber of Commerce.

Since becoming a visiting Professor at the Business School at Glasgow University, Wright has engaged in a fairly extensive Lecture Programme at the University and in The Gulf and elsewhere on the subject of Leadership/Leadership & Change/Leadership in Adversity and Leadership in the Implementation of Strategy.

He also in his capacity as a Director and Chairman of a number of companies, established and directed a “Moving On” Programme which develops the latent Leadership capabilities in Executive Teams.
